Trail Report

John Cary, Mike Creamer, Ron Copp, Matt Chandler cut a new trail behind the new subdivision on Bruce Hill Rd. The new trail was around 300 yards of heavily treed land. This was the biggest project done by the club in over 15 years.

Mike Creamer suggested we could take a tractor down the power lines to move the displaced bridges back to the proper place. Ron Copp said he would look at it.

There was a report from Mr. Villacci on Route 9 that there were ATV’s crossing his property on the snowmobile trail. Joanne Jordan spoke with him and then tried to locate the tracks crossing the snowmobile trail with no success. Mr. Villacci called back and stated a warden had found that the ATV had driven down Mr. Villacci’s driveway and crossed the road and down another street. The offender was located and spoken to by the warden.

Chris Cyr secured access to a new trail in West Cumberland. It is in the Forest Lake area and goes up to Blackstrap near Maloney Ridge.

Blanchard Road and Doane property trails are closed. Joanne Jordan got the tax map and identified abutting landowners. The abutting landowners need to be approached to see if we can reroute those major trails. Kim Arsenault has some knowledge of the landowners on Tuttle Road and said she would approach them.

Activities:

The Snow Dance is scheduled for Friday April 1st at Val Halla. We need some ideas for a band or a DJ. We need to start collecting items for the silent auction. Two Bass John was suggested to look into.

Other News:

Sean McBreairty said he updated his new computer to work with his latest GPS computer version. The cost was $60 for the upgrade and the club voted to pay Sean for the expense. Sean has already updated our map with Chris’ new trail and it is now on the web site.

Sean volunteered to write to the Maine Snowmobiler so our club would have something in the listing.

There was a discussion on what we wanted to do as a club to contribute to a cause. We decided to send a care package to Mosul where one of our club members has a daughter stationed. Some items needed are toothbrushes, DVD’s, and stationary. The complete list of requested items is on the web site.

The club needs to get serious on landowner appreciation. We need to plan an event to show the landowners our appreciation. Some ideas mentioned were a barbeque, and sending landowners tickets to enter the Cumberland Fair.

Chris Cyr had contacted past members who had not joined the club in the last couple years. He wanted to know why they did not join to see if there was something we could do differently. He heard some complaints about not getting enough information from the club and not having enough input on purchases and trips. The information was discussed amongst the members and the comments were that if you attend a meeting you have input. There are only about a dozen active members and they carry a heavy load. The realization is we need more active members that are willing to take an active part. We currently have two board members carrying two board positions. The club needs to recruit friends to attend the meetings. The same people always groom and maintain the trails and equipment. If the club is going to succeed we need more help.
